You would not believe how long it took me to find a non-ticket selling event guide that actually had a good selection of events. In the end I gave up and opted for a commercial site but at least it’s a really, really good one. Listing tourist and business events in the UK and worldwide this site provides comprehensive details and can also arrange tickets, travel and accommodation.

Chilli Rating: 
This is a searchable guide to local and nearby attractions, places to go, things to do and see. There are a few events listed but the majority of the listings are for year round attractions/activities. It’s a good site to use for planning a family day out or what to do and see on a short break.

True to form, the Guardian once again delivers a high quality directory covering TV, radio stations, music, concerts, cinemas, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and theatres. With a “pick of the week” section, special reports and reviews, this is probably the best place to start planning your night out. Some of the sections link to relevant venues throughout the UK to make your planning that much easier.

This is really a collection of sites that cater for both artists and art lovers. Covering everything from an artist directory and online portfolios to free fine art ecards to a detailed guide to the history of art, the site also offers services to artists such as free webspace, email accounts and online portfolio creation.

The big deal here is the reviews: art, music, films, games of music and books. But they also have a funny section called “separated at birth” as well as a message board.

Featuring a rather cool design this online entertainment magazine does in fact cover a wide range of topics from what’s on to news and gossip to film and gig reviews. If you’re really into this kind of thing you can even become a contributing author but they won’t pay you.

This is actually quite a fun site. You'll find reviews of live comedy acts, rants about TV sitcoms, jokes, games and a forum. You can also post your own reviews, jokes, articles and links. Pretty much anything and everything that's funny (or someone else thinks is funny!).

Just Quizzes offer a selection of pub and fun quiz questions that can be ordered online with near instant delivery. They don’t really provide many examples or details of the individual quiz questions, but with most of the quizzes being priced at £2.50 or £5.00 you can’t go far wrong.
